I have tried to install the Archangel game by JoWood on Win 8.1. The installer is not working at all, doesn't do anything, and I can't find anything on the net about it other than black screen. Anyone know of a way to install this, or what needs installing, have tried to copy over the main files found in Bin to a directory outside the Windows folders, then into that folder copied the subfolder Data. Now I set game.exe to WinXP SP3 compatible, and Run in 640x480, but when I run it it goes black, adjusts the screen, I get a CD spinning then it goes black again and nothing.

Anyone have any ideas how to get this working? Normally I can get these running, but this one is beating me.

Edit: Forget it, I see its some sort of DRM check on the disc which is causing this. Using the original disc works, but then there are other errors about libraries and such like. Another for the bin.

If nothing works try installing it on win 7 or in a virtual XP PC then copy whole game on your system.
You may have to use a crack but game should work.

Else you will have to give a visit to you-know-who!!!

I know this is an old thread, but after my backups failing i am finding the same frustrating issues re installing all my old softeware and games esp in win 11, but there are many ways to get old discs with securom and disc copy protection working and this is applicable to a lot of older games too, you can install the old safedisc and securom drivers and just enable them for the install, older games on cd often justa ssumed your cd drive was d:, you can copy the cd files to your hdd, delete the tmp and security check files and it will install, or if you have a spare laptio or pc in the house, share the cd rom and install over the network, a lot of older cd copy checks just ignore the security check on a cd over the network and will install, most usually will also run in winxp mode with running as administrator (and sometimes disabling full screen optimizations). You can also get away with copying the cd files to the root directory of your d: drive and installing from there. I have also noticed in win11 that some european and uk CD's won't install, but if you download the US version iso's of your game it will install fine (Must be an american oversight when programming windows, what good planning). If all else fails, you can download a no cd fix for your game (Which is perfectly legal if you own and have bougth a copy legally) which if you burn to a new cd or run from the hdd will install. Another method is to install the otvdm app which will allow older 32 and 16 bit installers to install your game. If that all fails, you can always run windows xp or 7 (7 will install everything with a bit of playing with the dep and copying system files to install and game folders) ina virtual machine like oracle VM. install the game as normal in your virtual machien, then copy out the game folders to your PC (A lot will run without the registry being needed) but it's always best to export the registry for your games, windows 11 will quite happily put them in the right places and work fine with older registry importing, this way is a huge pain in the butt, but it also works as a last ditch effort.
