I came across this (https://eci.ec.europa.eu/045/public) petition to prevent publishers from retroactively disabling games you have purchased, the petition ends 31st of July and is only open for EU citizens (and separately (https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/702074) for UK citizens), but perhaps the GOG team *nudge* *nudge* could *wink* *wink* promote it during its' last sprint, since it seems in line with GOG policy, and could be beneficial for GOG itself if it comes to pass as an possible outlet for these games.

Just a couple of threads below this one
Stop asking GOG to "nudge nudge, wink wink" an infeasible imitative that requires so much careful nuance to even begin discussing beyond a lay level.

It doesn't match with GOG policy because the initiative is pro-noose, by which I mean Ross is on record with being fine with DRM in use during the lifetime of a game because apparently "What to do after authentication servers expire" wasn't on his recipe card.
"What to do after authentication servers expire" is what this whole initiative is about.

The11thPlague: (…)
Step 1: Don’t buy games gating gameplay/content behind any kind of authentication (a.k.a. DRM).
Step 2: Don’t care what happens when authentication servers are shut down, since that can’t affect you.
GOG now requires Galaxy to use multiplayer for most new games.
That means, it requires a client to connect to a remote server completely outside of my control and requires you to have an account that gets authenticated.
The remote Galaxy server checks if you have the right to use that game for multiplayer.

That is, by definition, Digital Rights Management (DRM).
The right being, can you play multiplayer?
The management being, only if the GOG Galaxy server allows you to.

They promised DRM-free games, but now there's a big asterisk (*)
(*) DRM-free for single player only. Galaxy account required for multiplayer.

If Galaxy shuts down, or if your account gets locked for any reason, say goodbye to your multiplayer.
There used to be private servers that you could set up on your own, without having to ask anyone for permission.
You could even set up your LAN multiplayer game without the need to connect to the Internet.
Not anymore, now you need to ask for permission to play multiplayer.

So, where am I supposed to buy DRM-free games, again?
If your main or sole concern is DRM-free singleplayer games you can fully own a copy of, GOG was, is and will remain THE go-to place.

Couldn't care less about multiplayer, which is also the case for the vast majority of the GOG userbase, don't even have to go out on a limb here.

You can nudge and wink all you want, but we already went over it quite thoroughly and GOG has decided not to:

I think GOG specified pretty early they could only grant DRM-free mainly for SP tho.
Even if I wish that weren't the case.
Looks like further promotion won't be necessary anyway - if the new-found momentum is kept this might reach 1M signatures by the end of July after all.

Yep. +100K in the last 24 hours. By the end of the week I'd say even.

The devs are responsible for implementing LAN / WLAN / VLAN / direct IP / private server functionality, not GOG.

On the contrary, it is absolutely necessary.
We need to go well over 1M, because a number of signatures usually gets discarded on verification.
Let's go!
Stop Destroying Games.

Stop Destroying Gaza.

Maybe people need to get their priorities right.
