System Shock 2 was originally released in 1999 and this cult classic sci-fi horror FPS with RPG elements has become widely considered as one of the best video games of all time.

Now, from the hands of Nightdive Studios, the System Shock® 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is available on GOG!

With the goal of reverse engineering the original code to port SS2 to the KEX Engine, this upcoming title will let us enjoy the legendary game from almost 25 years ago, all with cinematics, textures, characters and weapon models updated, and the Co-Op Multiplayer overhauled to create a seamless experience.

But that’s not all – if you’re an owner of the classic System Shock® 2, you have a 50% discount on the remaster until June 29th, 1 PM UTC. And if you pre-ordered System Shock: Enhanced Edition back when it was released, you’ll get this one for free!

Now on GOG!

amok: It is because Steam reviews only have two options - 'Recommend' or 'Not Recommend'. So someone may think the game is a buggy mess, but still find it fun to play and therefore recommend it to others. Or someone may think the game looks similar to the original, but still enjoy it and choose to recommend it to other players.

Syphon72: You're totally right. Maybe the Steam should improve their review system.. They have the resources to improve a lot.
I think the review system is much better than most. Instead of some kind of arbitrary number or star rating that only has a subjective meaning to the person writing the review, all it asks is whether you like the game or not. Then it simply tallies up the people who like it and those who do not. I have no problem with this system.

There are a lot of people who disagree. I'm one of them... GOG needs to improve its review system as well.

Stoop Solo: It showed as full price for me as well, but I added it to the cart and it refreshed with a 50% discount. The discount appeared in the cart as well. It seems to be there and not there, Like Schrodinger's discount.
This is for people who prepaid prior to today. It only gave 10% off even if you already owned the classic SS2.

No review system is perfect, nor will there ever be one, since a review is inherently just a subjective opinion. So, you just need to go with whatever works best for you.
50% off at release sounds nice...

However: since I have no intention to (re-)play SS2 right away, I think, I'll wait a little longer.
That time will also allow the devs to (hopefully) fix all possible flaws and kinks of a new release.

Can't disagree with that.

I see. I hadn't preordered the remake. In any case, there is clear fidgy-widginess afoot in the discount implementation. Hopefully a speedy resolution is forthcoming.

Whats bad here is preorders even yesterday was only 10 percent off for this game and then they drop this 50 precent off discount meaning they basically was super scummy for owners of the old SS2 as a result

50% off works for me, downloading.
I remember when original came there it felt like a miracle happening in real time...

Yeah, that was a HUGE deal at the time. Funny how things change - now it's just kinda "oh, that's nice" when this remaster launches.

Not that I won't be buying it - I wasn't that excited for it, but I watched a bit of the footage on GOG's Twitch stream and now I really want to play it.

Fey_spirit: Interface is a bit annoying, tiny. No option to make it larger to properly fill screen, and mouse slow when moving over interface to manipulate inventory. Mouse sensitivity doesn't feel to have impact there.

Tutorial a bit changed, by adding camera and explanation of console to disable alarm.

Will see if I'll use reliable mouse and keyboard more, or have to go full gamepad on Legion go.
So you're playing this ancient game on a screen with a PPI of 343...

Can someone else tell me something meaningful about the UI scaling?
On the Gamecard it still says "System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition" while the URL is www.gog.com/de/game/system_shockr_2_25th_anniversary_remaster

I do too, in 2013. Special front page banner with green glowing lines and eyes. I think TET was still around and G-Doc?
System shock remake backers only get a steam key? I mean I couldn't understand the message clearly apparently. They say that backers get steam key, and that people who preordered it on another platform automatically get this game on that platform too. But how does it work for backers who wanted their System Shock remake on GOG? I mean I was a backer, wanted my system shock remake on GOG, and I did get that system shock 2 remaster steam key for being a backer.

So does that mean that backers who wanted a GOG copy won't get a GOG key for system shock 2 remaster?
