System Shock 2 was originally released in 1999 and this cult classic sci-fi horror FPS with RPG elements has become widely considered as one of the best video games of all time.

Now, from the hands of Nightdive Studios, the System Shock® 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is available on GOG!

With the goal of reverse engineering the original code to port SS2 to the KEX Engine, this upcoming title will let us enjoy the legendary game from almost 25 years ago, all with cinematics, textures, characters and weapon models updated, and the Co-Op Multiplayer overhauled to create a seamless experience.

But that’s not all – if you’re an owner of the classic System Shock® 2, you have a 50% discount on the remaster until June 29th, 1 PM UTC. And if you pre-ordered System Shock: Enhanced Edition back when it was released, you’ll get this one for free!

Now on GOG!
Nice going GOG; offering 50% discount for original owners when other places like Steam don't!

Didn't buy a game on GOG for almost 3 years; but this one, although I don't need it now, will buy on principle alone!

Thanks GOG and congrats again!

XYCat: System shock remake backers only get a steam key? I mean I couldn't understand the message clearly apparently. They say that backers get steam key, and that people who preordered it on another platform automatically get this game on that platform too. But how does it work for backers who wanted their System Shock remake on GOG? I mean I was a backer, wanted my system shock remake on GOG, and I did get that system shock 2 remaster steam key for being a backer.

So does that mean that backers who wanted a GOG copy won't get a GOG key for system shock 2 remaster?
Allegedly you have to email their support and request a code swap. I did that this morning, and am waiting to hear back. Maybe they have a lot of people doing the same?

SpecShadow: I remember when original came there it felt like a miracle happening in real time...

Chacranajxy: Yeah, that was a HUGE deal at the time. Funny how things change - now it's just kinda "oh, that's nice" when this remaster launches.
Because, well, getting the actual game IS kind of a big deal. And getting a repolished version of the same game with higher texture resolution and improved models for the price of a new game -- much more expensive than the original has been for a long long time -- is not really that big of a deal.
Warning: The Remaster has an issue where your character gets stuck randomly to doors and objects. So far I played the game 1h 18m and got stuck twice. The first time happened in the PSI-training area, after picking up the PSI-amplifier. Saving and reloading fixed it and I was able to move on. After an hour I've been approaching a door, I was crouching, the door opened, almost closed and I was stuck again. This time around, saving on the spot and re-loading did not work, and I lost about half an hour of playtime.

This is a known issue and the suggested workaround is to open a console window, with either of the following key-combinations: Ctrl+ALT+^ or Shift+; and entering the command unstick_player That doesn't work because the command doesn't exist.

One Nightdive developer had the following to say:
We hit situations where you could get stuck in odd places only a handful of times during development, it's a tricky bug to fix but we'll take another look at it.
If you've not purchased your copy yet I would suggest to wait, until a patch has been released which fixes this problem. I am considering to ask for a refund, because I don't like loosing half an hour to such a stupid bug. I also don't know whether using this or any console command will deactivate achievements, for the remainder of this playthrough.
This popped up in my library for free (thank you!), I only see one other user mentioning this here so I guess I meet some special criteria for it. I owned SS2 classic and SS Remake prior to this happening.

Just the other day I was thinking how the sharper textures look nice and would be cool if the remaster was free for owners of the original. Guess that manifesting worked. xD

One of the greatest game ever created...I'll replay this for sure in the future. :)
It doesn't appear the discount to me. I also do not remember if I am entitled to a free copy or not. I have the classic but I don't want to bother support for something that should work automatically. It's not worth the waste of time. In a few months it will be cheap in a bundle at fanatical or humblebundle.

These things always happen to me on GOG. For this reason the little I buy lately goes to steam.

The discount was there some time ago and then it was gone for a while, but now it seems to be back again.
And the discount is gone again...

You have to put the game in the basket first.

The shock of system is back? Yehhhhhhhhh! I remember this game from being a wee bugger all the years ago. Contemplating a buy at the 50 percent discount as soon as I tally my other expenses today. Hope everyone buying this has shocking dreams and plenty of adrenaline pumping while they travel the monster stuffed halls.

The free copy is for people who preordered the System Shock Remake, not for people who had previously bought System Shock 2 Classic.

Since you say you have bought System Shock 2 Classic then you get 50% off of this.
I bought my pre-order on the 18th of last month. Can I still get the 50% off?
When will we get our free copies?

You'll want to put in a support ticket or ask for a refund right away. They can refund the original purchase and then you can rebuy the 50% off copy.
Thank you, Nightdive Studios and GOG for this bringing this remaster here! Also, I appreciate the 50% discount! :D
