Shmacky-McNuts: This is my problem with the game. Plus it has a few things that I really hate. Such as a mental disorder system, to use as a makeshift "balance" system. Instead of adding more mechanisms for long term results. The devs keep a bad system in place. Every new vversion I look at videos to see if I want to buy the game. But every damn time I look, there it is. Almost every character has a mental disorder, that will go totally bonkers at the drop of a hat.
You can just not allow people with those traits in your colony. If that still bothers you then you can just set forced trait to 0% for everybody (scenario settings) for those traits that bother you and never deal with it at all. The game just won't generate anybody with those traits. If it's the mental break system itself that bothers you - just set +20 mood in difficulty and never worry about mental breaks unless you really intentionally push your colonists over the edge (or everything goes so catastrophically wrong that mental breaks become the least of your problems - shouldn't happen unless you really tune up the difficulty). You can use DevMode or mods if that still bothers you. This is a sandbox game, you can play however you want and there are usually settings for it.

And no, even in default mode not every character has those mental traits. If you're watching youtube videos (or whatever), influencers tend to prioritize those traits in their colonist because it makes things interesting (and thus more views).

City builder/strategy/4X, eh? Gonna wishlist the base game for now for when my finances improve.

It seems like everyone and their mother has nothing but praise for this game.

I'm enjoying it a lot.

Been looking forward to this for a while since I skipped Anomaly.

Niggles: Been eyeballing the original for a longtime - plan to get the base game, but, which of the DLC are worth it?. Looks quite pricey for expansions..

Mr. Zim: I would suggest, try out the OG first before you expand. I did and while managed a good 60 hours in the end i decided i found the play to be a bit too micro for my taste
Cheers will do.

That's from a mod or DLC, I guess. At least I don't see this option.
On the other hand, the "Character Editor" mod helps a lot in these regards. It seems to be more flexible, too - one can have a few weaker citizens but keep the society survivable.

I'm grateful for the option of modding, really. Unmodded, it was a pain. But now with the right mods, it's fine.

Here are some screenshots. It's an option in the base game, it doesn't require any mods or DLCs.

Doesnt look like players have any tactical option before entering a hotspot. Like which direction to enter a map or any scouting options to look at enemies before just spawn into a battle area. I dont mean player colony map. I mean players people attacking others.

Seems like super advanced people should have a little more intelligence than the Ghost Busters "Lets getter!!!" charge.

You enter the map from whichever direction you approach on the world map. You have some time before your enemies realize something is up to prepare to attack. You can definitely choose which direction to attack your enemies from, just move your pawns around the the perimeter of the enemy base, you can also set up some defensive positions as well - usually by moving rocks around for cover. You can't build a whole damn base - you're enemies won't wait around that long. You have plenty of tactical options though.

Or you can just charge straight away. It's up to you.

Seeing different concepts with different youtubers. Approach from the north and spawning in the south kind of stuff. I dunno, maybe different versions. Content creators dont provide such small details. Like one dude seemed to get spawned randomly and his ride animals just ran around, getting shot up. Then another gal had a map she invaded and though she was behind what looked like a mountain, her people had been instant targeted by rockets or mortars or whatever rained down on her people. Then, folks add mods. Which changes crap too. Hard to tell if I would ever buy this or not.

The entire reason I have more interest lately is because I am concerned Win10 will be no longer compatible with the game. After MicroSucks shutters support. Otherwise, Id sit and wait a time to see if all the broken leg crap gets some attention.

Like.....characters have social skills (unless its from a mod)? So why not add This War of Mine interactions, right? Any psychology aspect or mods?

Edit:

Also, characters cant tame animals and make them go after enemies or get out of the line of fire? Like giving commands??

Just finished watching a gal talk about latest dlc(Jadx?). She pointed out space craft cant fly to other planets in the same solar system. Its just for high orbit and half planet caravan stuff.....ouch. Helluva pricetag just to chill on the same planet, when the advertising gives the impression you can fly to other planets.

You're absolutely right, yes. I was searching at wrong places, but it's there. Very helpful to know, thank you!

For staying out of the line of fire, did you try placing an caravan site? However, if the animals and chars are placed bad, it might still be difficult. And I would say it's really just purely random. I always save before entering a map and the positions differ from reload to reload.

Some pets can be trained to fight but only in limited circumstances. Maybe try wolfes connected to a char with high Animal skill.

I only have observations of multi hour Lets Play vids boss. But thanks for the clarification of how it works.
