Azrael’s Tear, the 1996 classic revived by SNEG, is OUT NOW on GOG!

This first-person adventure weaves an eschatological conspiracy narrative and is absolutely drenched in atmosphere.

Classics like this are the crown jewels of any library. Check it out and make it yours!
A...classic?

Now, mind, I likely would have been playing SNES/N64 games at the time, or perhaps deigned to playing countless shareware games. But this feels like a game that would have been popular in a limited audiance, not a "classic", else I'd have found something like a Mandalore, Accursedfarms, or even Majuular retrospective on how it was "foundational and important", when I can't even find out sales figures.

[Reads a little.]

Ah, you forgot an operative word there, perhaps "Cult Classic".
Now that SNEG has managed to resurrect this old pearl, I hope that one day someone will also manage to bring Dark Earth back from video-game Limbo.

Why is it Limbo?

Tarhiel: Why is it Limbo?
Well, the game (like almost all of Kalisto's titles) isn't available anywhere. Except for abandonware sites. AFAIK the only game from the same devs who has been republished is Savage Warriors.

Maybe there's a chance SNEG will one day look into the matter. And maybe also resurrect Fury of the Furries (also by the same devs).

Remember playing some of this after finding a big box copy in a dollar store back in the 90s. Fun if albeit quirky times.
It's like Tomb Raider and Myst had a baby, with DINOS and other interesting fare to discover along the way :)

Calibrator: Personally, I think they should do a complete Remake of this thing.
Or, alternatively, a fan mission for Thief...
If any game could use the remake/remaster treatment, it's games like this. That said, the og's not too shabby.

I thought you gonna say the rights are scattered/divided across multiple companies, this is definitely doable then, and I do hope for it too - Dark Earth is one of those games I would love to own and play :)

The main problem with Dark Earth is that it is based on the ttrpg Dark Earth and has to be licensed. It was published by Multisim which was dissolved in 2003.
Easy game to wishlist!

Swedrami: Quite Quakey/Descent to Undermountain-y, in terms of colour scheme at least.
still waiting for that one on GOG ;)
