reseme: there is a great life lesson I've learned from my favorite youtuber
https://www.youtube.com/@VagrantHoliday of something called Parasocial Interaction
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasocial_interaction which is a very dangerous psychological condition that most humans experience at some point and that can be really dangerous for a lot of people.
These AI companions are pure evil from this point of view, because while you can sometimes "snap out" of this type of relations with real people, because they do something that you don't like/approve so "the love" can go away, with the AI designed to please you, the more they learn about you, the less likely that they say something that can upset you. So "snapping out" it will be really hard.
I strongly advise everyone if you have 10 minutes of time to read that wikipedia page then stop a moment and think if it applies to your life.
The first step it to understand the issue and be able to recognize it so you can better protect yourself.
I’m not sure you fully understand the concept, or the Wikipedia page you're referring to. Parasocial relationships have been studied for a long time, and we have a solid understanding of how they work. Like all social interactions, they can have both negative and positive outcomes, but I really wouldn't call them dangerous.
What, in your mind, makes them so 'dangerous'? Also, what is the specific 'danger' posed by AI personas that is greater than the danger of any other social interaction you might have with a real person you’re emotionally attached to, who could also give you bad advice?
