Fonzer: Still kinda a beginner in this game.
Everyone is. Even people with thousands of hours (not me, not even close). Part of its joy.
Shmacky-McNuts: This is my problem with the game. Plus it has a few things that I really hate. Such as a mental disorder system, to use as a makeshift "balance" system. Instead of adding more mechanisms for long term results. The devs keep a bad system in place. Every new vversion I look at videos to see if I want to buy the game. But every damn time I look, there it is. Almost every character has a mental disorder, that will go totally bonkers at the drop of a hat.
You're corrected because you're wrong and that's not how it works. Characters spawn with random selections of traits. The list is huge. Some very few of those traits are those you list. And those are characters you usually think twice about recruiting, or train in melee combat so they're expendable.
A major component of the game is selecting the right collection of people to work together. But sometimes you have shit selection and you have to make do with someone for a while.
Yes, these traits often do include (usually very small) boosts too, but that's mostly minor. Most character do not have any of these traits.
Examples:
Pyromaniac. Tiny mood buffs when watching a campfire, tiny bonus to using flamethrowers. But when they have a stress (no more or less frequent than a regular characater) incident, they set fire to things. ALWAYS AVOID.
Neurotic. HUGE work speed increases, but major penalty to keeping happy. These are the kind of people you design your base around to make sure they're taken care of because they're very productive but need to be kept in the best of quarters and well fed... Or avoid them like many of us do because it's not worth it. These are the ones that have breakdowns more often.
Psychic Sensitive. All psychic effects are multiplied on them. Good ones AND bad ones. Offensive ones AND defensive ones. The occasional "psychic hum" event can make these ones have a breakdown for the duration of that event.
EDIT: And Biotech added children + raising them. A well-reared child lets you select its traits (from a narrowed randomized list, that usually includes "no trait this time" as an option).
