Tekkaman-James: Hmm...I didn't notice that
Shape of the World wasn't offering a DRM-Free version. Looking through their comments section, their response to it was a little obtuse. I have reached out to their marketing manager
(look at me, all business-y sounding) to try to get some better clarification. I will definitely let you know what they have to say.
I spoke with them when the project debuted. Here's the response I got:
Hi. I plan on releasing a DRM-free version eventually, but not for the initial release. I personally think Steam is a reasonable platform. I hope you'll still be on board! Sounds like that while they are open to a DRM-free release, they are relying on some platform integration initially. Devs don't always bother to go back and take that stuff out again, especially if the game doesn't get a big reception. And as an art game that kind of mass appeal is unlikely.
One game which could use more publicity is
We Happy Few. As a fan of
The Prisoner, this premise really appeals to me. And the devs are committed to DRM-free, which they weren't able to swing for their first game (
Contrast) and have expressed regrets about. I like to reward those who "see the light". :)
